The Review

Race, the title alone brings different ideas to different people. That same idea existed in the time frame that the movie portrays as well. This is the story of Jesse Owens, his life before, during and after his historic Olympic feats. He wasn’t always the Olympic hero that we see him as though. James Cleveland Owens was commonly was born and raised in Ohio. As a teenager he met and fell in love with a young lady and even had a child out of wedlock. When he had an opportunity to go to college, he took it. There would be a price for that choice though, only time can tell what things truly cost. His coach takes an interest in him and sees something in him that Jesse can’t or won’t see in himself. When Jesse does begin to shine, there are some more issues that he has to deal with besides just the race. The ones that are closest to him expect him to put his race ahead of the race (don’t let that confuse you). He made the decision to take a stand, in doing so he set records that were set for decades following. History was about to change, it took more than one person to make that change but this was one of the many steps that led to it. Come experience this remarkable journey of strength and courage. You’ll leave with some knowledge that won’t change the world but it just might change you a little bit.
