In a time of inequality, a man with a dream was determined to change the world. That dream was a simple idea but not so simple to see it realized. Slavery had come to an end but there were still those who couldn't move past segregation. "We The People", is such a simple statement, the first 3 words of our constitution. It never says we the white people, or we the black people, it's not about color, it's about people. So why is that so hard to understand. Simple... People don't like change. Sometimes change is necessary and this was one of those times. Martin Luther King Jr. had the courage to take a stand. His stand was that of non-violence. Unlike others of the day, MLK Jr. approached this idea with hope and an outlook that equality was possible. This came to a head in Selma, AL, while preparing for and then executing a march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. The first attempt ended in tragedy but with the intervention of the Governor and President Johnson, that soon changed. The actions of a few changed the lives for all. When the march was attempted again, it was met with celebration and opposition once again... It didn't stop those determined to succeed. It was more than a series of steps, it was a defining moment in history. Beautifully told, this story emphasizes what those who fought so hard for us to be where we all went through. There will always be some that can't or are just unwilling to move forward but for the majority of society. "We The People" is what we strive to live by.
