The new video game adaptation of Tomb Raider is here. Lara Croft is dealing with the loss of her father and for a while estranged herself from the family, the money, and the business her father built. Obviously a secret is revealed and she has renewed interest in what happened to her father and finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime. Even though the set up is a little light so to speak, the journey and reason for the journey is made clear and is very entertaining and thrilling to watch. The pace slows down a bit after arriving on the island to build the story but at least it leads us somewhere we want to go. Alicia Vikander is Lara Croft and plays her incredibly well. She’s not superhuman by any means. Some of the action scenes nearly leaves you out of breath along with her. It’s grounded action with a hint of video game action to it if that makes sense. She is a person with a lot of drive but little skill...for now. She has to take somebody out and for someone that has never had to do that, it affects you and it affected her. The reality of what has to be done is executed very well and is as fun to watch as it is emotional at those times. But she is her father’s daughter, resilient and intelligent. That gives her an advantage that she utilizes well to not only survive but stop very bad things from happening. The actions sequences are thrilling to watch which makes the movie overall very entertaining to watch. If there is the slightest curiosity about how this version of Tomb Raider was done, go see it. The adventure is worth taking.
