A story about a time, a story about a place, a story about people but most of all a story about love. How can you write a story about love if you've never experienced it? That is what Christian is about to learn. A chance encounter with some unusual bohemian characters turns out to be what changes everything. Deception is the only way for an average man to infiltrate this life. This deception is a fork in the road and each road leads to a different outcome. As different as the outcomes are, they both end up "Spectacular". Differences in the qualities in each of them being something and unique to the story. The deception continues as this love story is told. One love is real and one is a ruse. Who will Satine choose? One thing that is learned is that "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return". So it's more than just a simple love story in this adult-themed musical. The setting is a French house of ill repute. The music is creative and original. The story is enthralling and will draw you in. Somewhat soap opera-ish, it's very dramatic and adventurous. I loved seeing the vocal talents of all involved. Definitely, a chick flick but the sexual tone throughout might draw the men in too. Some scenes are downright silly but it fits in with the story being told.
