With the reality of wrestling debate aside, there are those that transcended the sport and became myth, became a legend. Andre the Giant was one of those people. He was the gentle giant that loved the fans, loved professional wrestling, and never changed who he was for anybody. He was beloved by all the wrestlers and adored by fans for over twenty years. Growing up in the era of the rise of Hulk Hogan and the dominating presence of Andre the Giant I couldn’t believe that there was somebody that big doing any kind of sport. Everybody saw the wrestler but not many knew the man, the heart of this giant. He has Acromegaly, an overproduction of growth hormone. So everything grew at an alarming rate. Seeing his life as he came into wrestling and seeing him and hearing about how and who he was throughout his wrestling career was amazing to journey to watch. He demanded respect and got it, what he wanted he got, but what he gave to others and the sport he got back a hundredfold. He never stopped being who he was and wanted to be even though he was constantly in pain towards the final years of his life. He health declined, his body was giving out but this giant’s heart never stopped loving the sport and loving people. Fans of professional wrestling now and those who were in the ’80s into the ’90s will enjoy this journey through Andre’s life and get to know who the man behind the legend really was.
