Expressing ones self is crucial for our mere survival. Our desire to be ourselves is simply timeless, even if we stand out in a crowd. Finding your voice is the hardest part. That's one thing Florence Foster Jenkins never had a problem with. Everything in her life revolved around music, even when it separated her from her loved ones. Her sheer passion would fuel her fire to keep moving forward. She would go down in history as one of the worst singers in the world. That's not what this is about though. This is her journey to share her passion with the world. A beautiful story that was eloquently presented to all of us in this cinematic piece that will leave you needing two things, a set of earplugs and a match... Why the match? To ignite the fire within yourself. That's using "match" as a metaphor only, please do not bring matches to the theater. ﾠWeﾠall have something, maybe you haven't found yours yet... maybe you have... What's stopping you? She never let naysayers get in her way. Her determination and passion would make history, but for a different reason than you might realize. Come experience this for yourself and let yourself revel in the beauty behind the vocals that defined her. It may be unusual, but it's incredible. Don't let this one pass you by.
19 May 1868-26 Nov. 1944
Set in 1944 Jenkins, whose life is all about and built around her love of music, decides to take the stage again to sing. She hires her vocal coach to get her ready and a young new pianist who has no idea what he's getting himself into (You'll see what I mean).ﾠThis touching and humorous biopic story will keep you laughing and in awe of her life and who Florence Foster Jenkins was. Her passion and love for music and what it can do for people is beautiful even if her voice isnﾒt quite what you would call in tune. Her husband has, behind the scenes, been paying people off to love her singing. As we find out, it all blows up when he leaves for a weekend of golf; for she has chosen her biggest venue, Carnegie Hall. I went into this knowing nothing about this woman or her life. Learning about her and her passion was actually a joy to watch. Kevin (8/10)
