The Review

The Civil War was a harsh time in America's history. Many families paid the price in blood, or in other goods and/or services. One soldier met his breaking point when he lost someone close to him. Though he was a deserter, he fought for freedom in ways that weren't as prevalent as the war itself. The war itself was about basic freedoms and how they were denied to an entire group of society. Newton found something when he began to look outside the typical boundaries. As he continued to stand his ground and protect those around him, he would find something within himself and others that would reshape history. The battles that they would find themselves facing, would challenge everything that Newton thought he knew. That wouldn't stop his resolve. Right is right and wrong is wrong and he was determined to fight for what was right at any cost. This is a rare intimate look into one of the many lives that changed history. There is more to this than the history that is presented, jump forward to the not so distant past and see how the actions of a few helped to shape where we are today. Yet, at the same time, realize how much further we still have to go. Come experience this passionate portrayal of a historical figure that has been lost to history.

***Posse***

This is hard to describe with words. But several come to mind. Impacting. Emotional. Powerful.

This is an incredible historic story of a deserter during the civil war who had enough of the division, lack of freedom, and disregard for human life. No longer wanting to fight the rich man's warヤ and with immeasurable resolve, Newton Knight leads a band of other deserters from the war and sets off to free all who want to be truly free. The movie jumps around and you do have to pay attention to the way time jumps back and forth. It may feel drawn out but the story is worth watching. This film has many instances that leave you nearly breathless at the sheer brutality and the utter disregard for human life. But that was just back then right? Ask yourself, How far have we really come? How far do we still have to go? With the Civil war ending, the other supposedly free men, their war was just beginning. To speak or write of what happened is one thing, to watch it being played out in this way, is incredibly impacting. This is a powerful story in our history that is, to me, a must see. -- Kevinᅠ(7/10)
