What do a critic and a driving instructor have in common? I know, it sounds like an intro to a bad joke but it's not, it's the premise of the movie. This woman is at the prime of her life, or so she thinks. She critiques books for a living, her life is about to take an abrupt turn. Unbeknownst to her, her husband announces that he's leaving. That on top of her daughter just randomly showing up equals a recipe for disaster. You see, she's never had to drive before, her husband was always there to do it for her. Now, if she wants to pursue her life the way she envisions... it's a risk she must take. This driving instructor is a little different than you'd expect to, he's an immigrant that sought and received political asylum here in the United States. As you can imagine there are bound to be some culture differences here but they add to the nuances of the story. Ultimately they both end up teaching one another something pretty valuable. Though this story doesn't seem like much, it has memorable moments. Unfortunately, they're only moments, the chemistry between the two is energetic and enlightening but somehow it loses the spark just as quickly as it's lit. It is definitely a feel good drama for a quiet night at home, beyond that... There's just not much else.
