Alvin Schwartz was obsessed with folklore. Many of these tales have been lost to time, Alvin wanted to change that. His extensive research led him to want to retell these tales for an entirely new generation. That's how it began, he would retell certain stories and in doing so he made a meager living. It wasn't until he penned Scary Stories did his work truly come to life. Only it wasn't just the stories, it was Stephen Gammell, the artist behind the stories themselves. This combination would propel forgotten folklore to a new generation and beyond. Its content, often misunderstood, was as upsetting to some as it was exhilarating and inspiring to others.
