The Review

The Gallows, a high school production in 1993 that was just like any other... Until a tragic accident happened. An accident that scarred not only those involved but the entire community of Beatrice, Nebraska. Years later, the drama club at the same high school decides to re-enact the production (without the accident of course), as production gets underway everything seems to be going fine. Of course, it's as fine as it can be with the typical high school drama. When one of football team schemes to stop the production with some friends, they encounter some oddities. This entire production is done from the view of high schoolers. They carry around small camcorders and cell phones and what we see is entirely from their perspective. Though the cameras are unsteady and the production feels raw, it feels like we could be watching an actual event. It at times feels predictable but is refreshingly scary. It plays on the fears of the masses, by leading us down a path of fear and paranoia. Those that put this together went to great lengths to direct us one way while leading the story down another path. There is a twist at the end that you won't see coming. Finally, a true thriller that doesn't disappoint... Bring a friend and hang on for dear life...
