A beautifully tragic tale about a young Russian girl who lives on the streets. Her only income comes from selling matches to those who pass her by. After an unsuccessful day, she finds hope in the flames of her matches. Though using the matches will mean that she cannot sell them, her need for warmth and hope outweigh the other ideals in her simple life. As the fire of the last match burns itself out, we see the tragic uplifting ending.
