Unbearable heartache, that's the plight of the Hayes's. Their daughter, brutally killed in an unimaginably horrific way, and no hope of any answers on the horizon. The police department seems to have stalled in any pursuit of justice, so this grief-stricken mother does something unusual. She takes out three billboards just outside of town, in an effort to move the case forward. Upon doing so, she finds herself at odds with everyone in her community, even her own blood. That won't stop her from her fight, justice will be served, come hell or high water for this mother. A painfully forward story about how far a grief-stricken parent is willing to go. Does she take it too far? or not far enough? That's what this story dares to ask? Along the way, it pushes many boundaries of language, content, situations, and even boundaries of decency. There will be those that will take a lot away from this movie, there will also be others that will see only anger and hate. Although there is no middle ground to be had here, the message itself is powerful. Only you can determine what you see in it.
