Almost everyone knows about the Jewish holocaust but not many have heard about the Armenian genocide. The Armenian genocide took place in 1915 when the Turkish government took it upon themselves to expel and eliminate all Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. In other words, what the Nazis did to the Jews, the Turks did to the Armenians. Although millions of Armenians were massacred the Turkish government to this day refuses to acknowledge their crime. The Promise takes place during this time period following the lives of an Armenian medical student, an American journalist, and of course the woman they both fall in love with. You will see their lives altered in ways that there is no coming back from. They were all born into different lifestyles and they will all leave with different stories. This film is a rarity in raw form telling a story that has been lost through the ages.
