World War I, a war that is almost lost to history. There is so much that we don’t know about what happened and those who can share the stories with us are growing fewer and fewer as the years’ pass. That is why Peter Jackson wanted to take this project on. There are archives of footage from WWI but most of it is grainy and almost unusable. A film restoration team painstakingly went through an enormous amount of footage to present the best of the best. It isn’t about politics, it’s about history. What he/they have done is to bring history to life. We see and hear what the war was really like in all of its brutality. Though it’s difficult at times to watch, it’s as real as it can be. The restoration team along with Peter Jackson brought in specialists along with the research to ensure the accuracy of what was presented. It’s an emotional journey as you watch these young men that are marching off to war that are met with obstacles that were impossible to comprehend. The ones who returned home were forever altered by what happened in a time where they were forced to struggle in silence. Certainly, this presentation will change the hearts and minds of all who experience it; as many families are connected to this war in one way or another. Historians will rejoice, families will weep, and humanity will face the realities of war like never before.
