Baseball, The Great American pastime. Jackie Robinson changed the game of baseball forever when he became the first African-American to ever play Major League Baseball. Set in 1947 we already know and are prepared for racist comments and extreme prejudice every time Robinson steps onto the field. We see a man that has a reputation for his attitude and his anger doing everything he can to withhold saying anything against all the hate being thrown at him. Beat the enemy on the field, that’s how you do it, earn their respect. That’s just what he did. At times the things being said toward Jackie can be hard to hear but at that time, it was sadly the norm. The inner struggle to stay focused and ignore the voices telling him he shouldn’t be there is very apparent. Why is he Jackie being brought to the forefront? Simply, to see it all unfold from the beginning. Still, to this day, every April, MLB honors the number 42 on their uniforms. One man changed the world with a bat, a glove and the will show what he was made of. If you love true stories particularly those relating to baseball/sports, then this movie will not disappoint.
